India’s pace speedster Jasprit Bumrah set the tone early for the visitors in the ongoing second Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval, as he removed opener Usman Khawaja.
Jasprit Bumrah Strikes Early As Khawaja Departs
In the last ball of the 10th over Jasprit Bumrah delivered the ball that moved just enough off the pitch, and angled into Khawaja’s off-stump line before moving away sharply. The ball caught the the edge of the Australian opener's bat and flew towards the first slip. The catch was a difficult one as it was at a height and speed that made it a challenging, but Rohit Sharma, stationed at first slip, took a solid catch without any hesitation. The wicket marked a significant milestone for Bumrah, as he claimed his 50th Test wicket of the calendar year.
Usman Khawaja had no answer to the delivery. Trying to defend the ball, he fended it away from his body, only to see it fly off the outside edge into the hands of Rohit Sharma.
The wicket of Khawaja sparked wild celebrations among the Indian team, with a particularly fiery reaction from Virat Kohli. The former captain, known for his aggressive nature on the field, was seen visibly pumped up, shouting and enjoying the dismissal.
Australian Bowler Shine In Adelaide
Earlier in the day, India had won the toss and opted to bat first, but the Australian bowlers, led by Mitchell Starc, had made early inroads. India struggled throughout their innings, with only Nitish Kumar Reddy providing a fighting resistance. Starc took six wickets and leaving the Indian batting line-up reeling.
