Vidarbha’s batting sensation Yash Rathod scored yet another magnificent century in the Ranji Trophy clash against Tamil Nadu in Coimbatore. In the process, he surpassed legends Vijay Hazare and Vinod Kambli in a remarkable first-class feat.

Rathod, who has been in unstoppable form over the past two seasons, now averages 60.00 in first-class cricket, becoming only the 12th Indian player ever to maintain such an average with over 2,000 runs.

According to Wisden, this achievement puts  ahead of iconic names like Vijay Hazare (58.38) and Vinod Kambli (59.67).

Playing at the Sri Ramakrishna College Ground, Yash Rathod came in after Vidarbha’s top order, Aman Mokhade (80), Dhruv Shorey (82), and R Samarth (56), laid the perfect platform.

With confidence, the 26-year-old turned the innings into a run-fest, reaching his half-century in just 61 balls.

He continued to dominate, converting it into his ninth first-class century. Eventually, Yash Rathod fell to a superb 133 but not before taking Vidarbha to a commanding position.

What makes Rathod's accomplishment more impressive is his terrific consistency across formats.

This season, in the Ranji Trophy, 2024-25, he has already scored 775 runs in seven matches at an average of over 110, building on the great form of the previous season that saw him top the charts with 960 runs in 10 games.

He has also performed well in other tournaments, including big scores in the Duleep Trophy and steering Vidarbha to a famous Irani Cup win, where he scored 91 and 5 in two innings.

For a player without a double century yet, Rathod’s record-breaking average speaks volumes about his ability to deliver match after match. He will definitely be a player to watch out for this season in domestic cricket.
