In a phenomenal achievement, Vidarbha defeated Rest of India (ROI) convincingly by 93 runs to win the Irani Trophy 2025. Chasing 361 runs, ROI was bundled out for 267 runs, losing the game by a comprehensive margin.

Yash Dhull's heroic knock goes in vain

After Vidarbha took a massive lead of 360 runs by posting 232 runs in their second innings, the Rest of India had a torrid start to their innings, losing Abhimanyu Easwaran and Aryan Juyal cheaply inside seven overs.

Although Ishan Kishan contributed 35 runs to the total, captain Rajat Patidar failed when it mattered the most, being dismissed for ten runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad sustained his lean patch, with Darshan Nalkande getting his prized scalp at a crucial juncture.

While Yash Dhull frustrated the defending Ranji Trophy champions with a brave knock, he steadily ran out of partners until his dismissal in the 63rd over opened the floodgates for the Rest of India.

Before getting dismissed off Yash Thakur's bowling, Dhull struck 92 runs off just 117 deliveries with the help of eight fours and a six. He also got involved in a heated exchange with Thakur, as the umpire had to separate the two before the matter could escalate.

Harsh Dubey's dream run continues

Left-arm off-spinner Harsh Dubey, who recently enjoyed stellar success in the Duleep Trophy, ran through ROI's batting lineup with a sensational four-wicket haul. After playing a crucial knock of 29 runs for Vidarbha in the second innings, Dubey dismissed Easwaran, Ishan, Akash Deep and Gurnoor Brar, playing a pivotal role in Vidarbha's clinical win.

Rajat Patidar's golden streak disrupted

Rajat Patidar has had a wonderful captaincy stint in 2025 so far. After leading Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their maiden IPL title, Patidar lifted the Duleep Trophy for the Central Zone after his side defeated the South Zone. However, unfortunately, his winning streak has been broken, with ROI losing to Vidarbha in the Irani Trophy.
