14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi registered a rare failure in the 3rd Youth ODI against Australia U19 as he was bowled by Charles Lachmund. The teenager walked back to the dressing room, scoring just 16 runs off 20 balls.
Suryavanshi has been bossing the India U19 series against Australia U19 so far, scoring 108 runs in 2 ODIs. However, in the series finale, the young opener failed to play a long and impactful inning.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi bowled for 16 in the 3rd Youth ODI
After India U19 opted to bat first in the 3rd Youth ODI held at the Oval in Brisbane, Vaibhav Suryavanshi walked out to open with captain Ayush Mhatre. The skipper once again fell cheaply on 4 off 4 balls as India lost a crucial wicket with just 10 runs on the board.
To add to the misery, India U19 lost their in-form batter, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, in the 7th over. Charles Lachmund delivered a good-length ball right on the stumps, testing Suryavanshi’s technique and timing.
The 14-year-old attempted to take on the bowler, aiming to play an attacking shot, but was unable to connect properly. The ball swung away just enough to beat the edge of the bat and, with precision, crashed into the off and middle stumps.
The wicket marked the end of Suryavanshi’s 16 off 20 balls (2 sixes) stay on the crease. With that, India were 2 down with just 36 runs on the board. Vihaan Malhotra and Vedant Tiware walked out in the middle to rebuild the inning.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi earlier smashed sixes record
In the second Youth ODI between India U19 and Australia U19, teen sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi hammered 70 runs off 68 balls, including 6 sixes and several boundaries.
At just 14, he broke Unmukt Chand’s record for the most sixes in Youth ODIs, hitting 41 maximums in only 10 innings, surpassing Chand’s 38 in 21 innings. Vaibhav’s explosive batting helped India post 300, alongside Vihaan Malhotra, who also scored 70.
The pair shared a 117-run partnership for the second wicket in just 18.3 overs. India went on to defend the total and seal the series with an unassailable 2-0 lead.
