India Under-19 walloped their Australian counterparts in the second youth ODI to seal the three-match series with a game to spare. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Vihaan Malhotra and Abhigyan Kundu carved fighting 70s with the bat, before unlikely bowling hero Ayush Mhatre dismantled Australia’s late resistance.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the second youth ODI of the three-match series between Australia Under-19 and India Under-19, as it panned out at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane on Wednesday, September 24.

Suryavanshi, Malhotra and Kundu’s 70s take India to 300

India lost captain and opener Ayush Mhatre for a two-ball duck against Australia Under-19 paceman Will Byrom in the first over of the match. His partner and fellow teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi counterpunched the Australian bowlers with an attacking 117-run partnership with number three Vihaan Malhotra. Both Suryavanshi (70 off 68) and Malhotra (70 off 74) clattered brisk 70s before becoming Yash Deshmukh’s (2-31) two victims of the day.

Wickets for Hayden Schiller (1-65) and Aryan Sharma (1-50) in the middle overs kept Australia in the hunt, but a sparkling 64-ball 71 from Abhigyan Kundu elevated the Indian total to a competitive 300. Byrom unfurled the spell of the innings for the hosts, adding two more wickets to his tally in the backend to seal figures of 3-47. Kasey Barton (1-53) and John James (1-53) also chipped in with a wicket each during the slog overs.

Ayush Mhatre halts Jayden Draper resistance to seal India win

Kishan Kumar struck early to get rid of Australia U19 opener Simon Budge for a sluggish 14. Kanishk Chouhan dismissed Steven Hogan and home captain Yash Deshmukh in successive overs as Australia U19 slipped to a troublesome 64-4 at one stage of the run-chase. Alex Lee Young and John James also failed to lead Australia U19 to recovery as both cricketers were dismissed in a short span by RS Ambrish (1-51) and Khilan Patel (1-47) at 109-6.

Jayden Draper at number six fought off India’s bowling charge and kept Australia in the hunt by composing a courageous 112-run partnership with Aryan Sharma (38 off 44). Draper bludgeoned 107 from just 72 balls with eight fours and five huge sixes to top-score in the game. However, a three-wicket haul from India U19 captain Ayush Mhatre (3-27) and a knockout punch from Vihaan Malhotra (1-2) scripted a huge 51-run win for the ‘Boys in Blue’.
