Vaibhav Suryavanshi has caught the imagination of cricket fans since he made a record as the youngest centurion in Youth Cricket. He has gone from strength to strength from thereon and became a household name with his exploits in the IPL at the age of just 13.
The swashbuckling left-handed batter is now 14 years old and is turning heads at the U19 level for India with his unbelievable strokeplay and consistency. He scored runs in England and is now doing it in Australia as well, showing signs that he is a one for the big league.
In the past, many great Indian cricketers have done well at the U19 level to make their name first up, and Virat Kohli is one of those top names. Virat Kohli piled up a lot of runs at the U19 level and became the captain as well, and those exploits helped him get fast-tracked into the senior side. So, where does Vaibhav Suryavanshi stand in comparison with Virat Kohli at the U19 level? Let's find out.

As of now, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is just 14 years old and so has played fewer matches than Virat Kohli played in his U19 career. However, the Bihar youngster has shown stunning skills in 10 youth ODIs played so far, scoring runs at an average of 54 and a strike-rate of 156, which is quite remarkable. The strike-rate and average are way more than Virat Kohli's, even though the former Indian captain was quite good compared to his peers at that time.
Kohli, though, maintained consistency over a longer period of time, and that is what Vaibhav Suryavanshi would like to do as well. However, with the kind of impact Vaibhav Suryavanshi makes with his power-hitting, he might end up breaking plenty of records at the U19 level, which Kohli could not reach.
In Youth Tests, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is a lesser proven entity. He has played four Tests and has shown flashes of brilliance in it, but is still learning the art of batting in red-ball formats. Thus, the average is less than 30 currently and he would like to work on his game and improve it in the upcoming years.
Virat Kohli, on the other hand, was brilliant in Youth Tests as well. He scored his 932 runs at an average of over 50 and had three centuries to his name. Thus, from a very young age, Virat Kohli showed his ability to be a future all-format batter for India.
Conclusion:
Vaibhav Suryavanshi has started off his U19 career with a bang, and at the age of 14, he has done things that even Virat Kohli could not have thought of. He is still a work in progress in red-ball cricket, and that is where one can say Virat Kohli was better than him at the U19 level. However, he is just 14 years old, and if he continues to work on his start, he might end up having the best-ever numbers in youth cricket, much better than Virat Kohli.
Thus, if we compare purely the age at which Vaibhav Suryavanshi is scoring runs, it is clear that he is better than Virat Kohli, especially in Youth ODIs. The challenge for him though would be to continue this good start.
