Star Indian opener KL Rahul failed to make the most of his purple patch with the bat as he was dismissed for just 11 on Day 2 of the four-day fixture against Australia A. Opening the innings for India A at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, the seasoned Indian cricketer nicked one towards Australia A wicketkeeper Josh Philippe off Will Sutherland within the first hour of the innings.

Rahul’s failure occurred just prior to Team India squad selection for the upcoming two-match home Test series against the West Indies team.

Hero in England, failure at home for KL Rahul

One of the seniormost members of the current Indian Test team, KL Rahul was dismissed for a sluggish 11 off 24 balls against Australia A on Wednesday, September 24. Opening the innings alongside Narayan Jagadeesan in pursuit of Australia’s monumental 420-run first innings total, Rahul nicked one towards Josh Philippe off Will Sutherland after hitting just one boundary during his short stay at the crease.

Rahul’s dismissal ensured India A lost its first wicket at 27 on the board in 7.3 overs, prompting an early arrival into the crease for number three Sai Sudharsan. The hosts eventually reached 38-1 in 10 overs by the time of lunch break on Day 2, finding themselves another 382 runs away from Australia A.

Will this failure impact KL Rahul’s prospects in WI selection?

KL Rahul recently played a key role in India’s Test series against England away from home. The legendary Indian opener minted 532 runs across 10 innings of the five-match series at a prolific batting average of 53.20, plundering two tons and two half-centuries in the process.

Despite his latest batting failure against Australia A, KL Rahul is all but certain to feature in the Indian team for the upcoming Test series against West Indies.
