Tanzid Hasan, who came as a concussion substitute for Soumya Sarkar on Monday during Bangladesh’s ODI series decider against Sri Lanka, slammed a fighting half-century at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.

The 23-year-old, who had to come after Soumya Sarkar’s unfortunate injury while fielding down the boundary, made an immediate impression, notching his second half-century in 50-over format.

Coming to chase a below-par 236, Tanzid came to open the innings alongside Anamul Haque. His partner made little impact, and so did the skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, but the young opener held his nerve to carry on from the other end.

Earlier, there had been plenty of injuries during Sri Lanka’s innings, with Mustafizur Rahman getting stretched off the field and making the headlines.

Soumya Sarkar played decently in the second ODI, scoring 68 off 66 balls before a screamer from Dilshan Madhusanka left him shocked on the field.

At the time of writing this, Bangladesh are in total control, having posted 94/2 after 19 overs. Tanzid is in the middle, batting on 61* off 62 balls, whereas Towhid Hridoy, who smashed an entertaining 96* in the second ODI, is batting from another end.
