In a meaningful milestone of his professional cricketing career, Soumya Sarkar breached the 2000 runs figure in the ODI format with his recent half-century against Sri Lanka, thus becoming the fastest-ever Bangladesh batter to have achieved this milestone in the lowest number of innings.

Bangladesh took on Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the three-game series earlier today in Chattogram. After being put into the bat first, the hosts lost opener Litton Das early.

However, Soumya Sarkar and captain Shanto overcame the pressure to rebuild the innings. While Sarkar perished after an incredible half-century against the odds, Shanto added 40 valuable runs to Bangladesh's first-innings total.

Notably, Soumya Sarkar achieved a mega career milestone during his 68 runs innings. The batter scored his 2000th run in the ODI format today to become the only 10th Bangladesh batter to have breached the milestone.

Not only that, Sarkar surpassed Litton Das to become the fastest Bangladeshi to have attained this achievement. While Soumya took 64 innings to score 2000 runs in the ODI format, Litton Das required 65 innings.

That being said, reaching the milestone of 2000 ODI runs is a testament to Sarkar's consistency and reliability as a top-order batter.

In an era characterized by fast-paced cricket and fierce competition, accumulating runs in the ODI format is no small feat. It requires not only skill and technique but also a passion for the game and the ability to perform under pressure.

Besides, Soumya Sarkar's gritty half-century and 75-run partnership with Shanto helped Bangladesh put some runs on the board. However, since Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga struck twice in an over, Bangladesh once again found themselves in trouble.

With only the tail left, Towhid Hridoy and Mushfiqur Rahim must bat deep to ensure Bangladesh finishes with a fighting total.
