'CSK Would Let Him Play On Wheelchair': Uthappa's Insane Remark On Dhoni Ahead Of IPL 2024

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain and beloved ‘Thala’ is all set to lead the team in the impending season of IPL amid concerns surrounding his knee injury. However, Dhoni’s teammate Robin Uthappa insisted that CSK would even be open to letting MS play in a wheelchair, thus reflecting on the captain’s paramount presence.

MS Dhoni, one of the most successful captains of not just Indian cricket but also IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings, was speculated to retire last year following knee and back injury concerns.

However, after the mega IPL final win, Dhoni dismissed the speculation to announce his return in the 2024 season.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni underwent knee surgery last year and went through grueling rehabilitation. While the wicket-keeper batter is fit to feature in the tournament this year, the future beyond that remains uncertain.

However, irrespective of MS Dhoni’s health issues, his CSK teammate Robin Uthappa believes the franchise wouldn’t risk letting Dhoni leave. He quipped that even if MS appears in a wheelchair, the franchise would allow him to play.

"CSK would let him play even if he was on a wheelchair! Get off from the wheelchair, bat, and then go back," Uthappa said on JioCinema.

Uthappa further added that batting has never been an issue that hampered MS Dhoni’s health. It’s the keeping that resulted in the aggravation of the knee injury. But since the captain loves to keep, he wouldn’t have it any other way as he feels he adds more value while keeping the wickets.

Thus, Robin Uthappa claimed that if MS Dhoni ever decided to call it quits, it would be because of his inability to keep the wickets and not because he feels he cannot make a significant impact with the bat.

"But I don't think the batting is the issue for him, I don't think batting will ever be an issue for him. I think it's the wicketkeeping. The knees are getting worn out and he loves keeping. So, because he won't be able to stand there and add value, he'll probably move on from the game than for any other reason," he added.

Notably, CSK will kickstart their IPL 2024 season campaign against RCB on March 22 in Chennai. The former are defending champions, and ahead of the season opener, MS Dhoni joined the camp in the city last week.
