India star Smriti Mandhana is standing just steps away from creating history. Ahead of the fifth and final T20I against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, Mandhana is close to becoming the highest run-scorer of 2025 across international cricket.

Notably, Mandhana has already scored 1,703 runs this year and needs only 62 more runs to go past Shubman Gill, who currently tops the list with 1,764 runs across all formats.

2025 turned out to be an outstanding year for Smriti Mandhana

The year 2025 has been outstanding for Mandhana. She played a major role in India’s ODI World Cup victory and delivered several memorable performances throughout the season. Recently, she crossed the 10,000-run mark in international cricket during the fourth T20I against Sri Lanka, scoring a powerful 80 runs.

This achievement made Mandhana only the second Indian woman to reach the milestone. She also became the fourth woman overall to do so, joining legends Mithali Raj, Suzie Bates, and Charlotte Edwards.

At present, Mandhana has 10,053 international runs to her name, highlighting her long-term impact on the game.

Smriti Mandhana's impressive career so far

Notably, her performance across formats explains her success. In Tests, she has scored 629 runs in seven matches at an impressive average above 57, including two centuries. In ODIs, she has collected 5,322 runs from 117 matches, along with 14 hundreds and 34 half-centuries. In T20Is, she has added 4,102 runs from 157 matches, placing her second on the all-time list.

It is worth mentioning that Mandhana’s recent innings against Sri Lanka showed her class and confidence. She smashed 80 runs off just 48 balls, hitting 11 fours and three sixes. This effort helped India post 221 for 2. India later restricted Sri Lanka to 191 for 6 and won the match by 30 runs.

However, Smriti’s start to the series was quiet, with scores of 25, 14, and 1 in the first three games. Her fourth-match performance changed the tone of the series and sealed a 4-0 lead for India.

The team will now aim to finish strong and complete a rare 5-0 series win, ending the year on a high note.
