Pakistan’s star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled out of the remainder of the Big Bash League season. The left-arm pacer was playing for Brisbane Heat in the ongoing tournament. Unfortunately, a knee cartilage injury has forced him to step away from the competition earlier than expected.

The injury occurred during a BBL match between Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers in Brisbane. During the game, Shaheen felt discomfort while bowling and was unable to continue.

As a result, he left the field midway through his spell. He managed to bowl only three overs and conceded 26 runs before being taken off as a precaution. Soon after, he was seen walking carefully, which raised concern among team officials.

Following the incident, Brisbane Heat confirmed that Afridi will be returning home. After speaking with the PCB’s medical team over the last 24 hours, everyone agreed that it would be best for him to end his BBL stay early.

This decision was taken so he can receive proper treatment and recover fully ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.

Shaheen also shared his feelings with his Brisbane Heat teammates. He told them that he was disappointed and upset that his first experience in the BBL had to end sooner than expected.

“I have enjoyed myself a lot playing for Brisbane and I am sad that I will not be able to finish the season with the team.”

“I am massively thankful to the Heat fans for showering me with immense love and support. I am also grateful for the support of the team and their amazing hospitality.

“The BBL was everything I had heard it would be – lots of good, skilful cricket. I have enjoyed the challenge.”

As a result of this setback, Shaheen will miss Brisbane Heat’s upcoming match against Adelaide Strikers on December 31.

During this BBL season, the 25-year-old played four matches and took two wickets. He recorded a strike rate of 41.00 and an economy rate of 11.20.

In addition, his absence means he will not take further part in the remaining matches of the season. Both the franchise and the Pakistan Cricket Board are focused on his long-term fitness, ensuring that he recovers fully before returning to competitive cricket.

It is important to mention that this injury has arrived at a sensitive time for Pakistan. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin in February, and Shaheen remains an important part of the national team’s plans.
