Mandhana–Shafali record stand powers India to huge total
India Women started their innings with an aggressive intent after being asked to bat first. Smriti Mandhana attacked from the very first over, with Shafali Verma taking charge soon after. Together, they powered India to 61 without loss by the end of the powerplay, setting the tone early.
Desperate for a breakthrough, Sri Lanka tried everything, but Mandhana and Verma remained unstoppable. Both reached half-centuries, unleashing a flurry of sixes and fours. Their brilliant effort forged a record-breaking 162-run opening partnership, firmly putting India in control.
With Jemimah Rodrigues unavailable for this match, Richa Ghosh came at 3 and continued the assault. Scoring an unbeaten 40 off just 16 balls, Richa, along with a few powerful strikes from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, propelled India to a massive total of 221 in their 20 overs.
