England's ODI squad announced [Source: AFP]
On Tuesday, the England and Wales Cricket Board announced England’s squad for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, which starts on 22 January. Notably, England has also revealed their squads for the T20I series and the T20 World Cup 2026.
Harry Brook will lead the team as captain, while wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith has been left out of the ODI squad. Meanwhile, star fast bowler Jofra Archer will not take part in the Sri Lanka white-ball tour, as he is continuing his recovery from a left-side strain picked up during the Adelaide Test.
Will Jacks and Zak Crawley make returns to England squad
All-rounder Will Jacks returns to both squads after missing the New Zealand white-ball tour in October. Similarly, Kent top-order batter Zak Crawley has been recalled to the ODI squad for the first time since December 2023. Crawley has played eight innings for England so far, scoring 199 runs at a strike rate of 97.07.
Notably, Liam Livingstone has not been included in either the ODI or T20I squads, and the reason for his omission has not been revealed. Meanwhile, the squad remains largely unchanged from the last New Zealand series, with players such as Phil Salt, Joe Root, and Jos Buttler retaining their places.
Overall, the squads combine experienced campaigners with returning talent, giving England balance and flexibility across both batting and bowling. Both the ODI and T20I squad members are set to depart for Sri Lanka on January 18, ahead of the first ODI, which is scheduled for January 22.
