Smriti Mandhana has been one of the most consistent players in international cricket in 2025. From scoring a bulk of runs to winning the Women’s ODI World Cup with the Indian team, she has achieved a lot this year. And that continued during the fourth T20I of the series between India and Sri Lanka.
The left-handed batter became only the fourth woman cricketer to reach the 10000-run mark in international cricket. It took her just 281 matches to reach this milestone. Former Indian cricketer and captain Mithali Raj, Charlotte Edwards and Suzie are the only other cricketers on the elite list.
Mandhana needed just 28 runs ahead of the fourth match against the island nation in Thiruvananthapuram, and she achieved that with ease as she got off to a solid start in the first innings along with Shafali Verma.
India leads 3-0 in the series
The Women in Blue have already sealed the five-match series, having beaten the visitors in all three matches before this. They are now eyeing a whitewash to assert their dominance over Sri Lanka.
Mandhana had not scored enough runs in the series, with 25 being her highest score in the first three matches. She would have wanted to do well in this match, and that came at a very important stage. Achieving this milestone would have also given her a great deal of confidence.
The Indian vice-captain will hope to continue this form and end 2025 on a high note as the series comes to a close. Her performances for India have truly been mesmerising and vital for the team’s success.
