In a significant move that has grabbed the attention of the cricketing world, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently decided not to include Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan in their central contracts.

The decision came after both players failed to adhere to the board's directive to participate in domestic cricket when not on national duty.

Kamran Akmal, the former Pakistani wicketkeeper-batter, has come out in support of the BCCI's stringent stance, emphasizing the importance of respecting the game and setting a proper example for young cricketers.

"The BCCI has made the right call, taking such strict action early on to control the damage," Akmal stated on his YouTube channel.

He highlighted the case of Shreyas Iyer, who missed domestic matches despite being declared fit, and Ishan Kishan, who took a personal break during the South Africa tour. Akmal believes this decision sends a strong message to all players about the significance of domestic cricket.

"If you don’t value the cricket because of which you made it to the national team, what message is it going to give to all the youngsters?" Akmal added.

Despite being sidelined from the central contracts, both Iyer and Kishan have opportunities to make amends. Iyer has been named in Mumbai's squad for the ongoing Ranji Trophy semifinal, providing him a chance to prove his commitment to domestic cricket.

Kishan, on the other hand, returned to action in the DY Patil T20 tournament, though his absence from the Ranji Trophy did not go unnoticed.

Veteran cricketers and experts, including Kapil Dev and Madan Lal, have voiced their support for the BCCI's decision, stressing the importance of domestic cricket as a foundational pillar for a player's growth and success.
