Shreyanka Patil extinguished all hopes of a possible Delhi Capitals’ lower-order insurgency by striking twice off successive deliveries in the WPL 2024 final at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The young off-spinner knocked over Arundhati Reddy with a peach before accounting for the wicket of number 11 Taniya Bhatia in the 19th over of the Delhi Capitals innings.

Patil’s two-wicket burst also helped her finish with astonishing figures of 4-12, as the entire Capitals line-up rolled over for just 113 in the all-important title clash.

Emboldened by spin partner Sophie Molineux’s three-wicket over, Shreyanka Patil further dented Delhi Capitals’ top-order plans by getting rid of a well-settled Meg Lanning. She also trapped Minnu Mani in front of stumps as the Capitals slipped from 64-0 to 87-7 in the space of just seven overs.

Patil further curtailed Arundhati Reddy’s threatening stay at the crease and removed number 11 Taniya Bhatia to polish off the Delhi Capitals tail in 18.3 overs. Remarkably, Patil’s demolishing act helped her seize astonishing figures of 4-12.

Earlier in the match, Delhi Capitals openers Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning blazed their side to 61-0 in just the first six overs of the innings before Sophie Molineux’s triple-strike forced RCB back into the game.

Apart from Molineux and Shreyanka Patil, fellow RCB spinner Asha Sobhana also chipped in with two key wickets, including that of Marizanne Kapp and Jess Jonassen in quick succession.
