RCB’s Australian import Sophie Molineux attained the momentous ‘Purple Cap’ by striking thrice in the space of an over in the WPL 2024 final against Delhi Capitals. The left-arm spinner accounted for the key Delhi Capitals wickets of Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Alice Capsey in her return spell right after the opening powerplay.

Through her three-wicket burst, Molineux soared past Delhi Capitals’ fast bowler Marizanne Kapp’s collection of 11 WPL 2024 scalps to become the new leading wicket-taker of the season.

Tasked to bowl inside the powerplay of the Delhi Capitals innings in theWPL 2024 final by captain Smriti Mandhana, RCB star Sophie Molineux conceded 10 runs first-up as Capitals raced to 19-0 at the end of their first two overs.

Capitals openers Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning pounced on their authoritative start to list 52-0 from five overs, and 61-0 by the end of the opening powerplay.

Called back to bowl the eighth over of the innings, Molineux made instant impact in her return spell by deceiving raging Shafali with a tossed-up delivery. The Australian spinner also broke through Jemimah Rodrigues and Alice Capsey’s respective charges in successive deliveries later in the same over as the Capitals slipped from 64-0 to 64-3 in a space of just four balls.
