After his twin failures in the Adelaide Test match, it was expected that Rohit Sharma will open the innings in the Gabba Test, however, to everyone's surprise, he decided to be 'selfless' and gave another chance to KL Rahul to prove his worth at the top.
Eyebrows were raised when KL Rahul walked out to bat alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal and it means that captain Rohit will bat at number 5, as he tries to redeem himself in the ongoing Test match.
KL Rahul had a great Test match in Perth as he added 201 runs for the opening wicket alongside Jaiswal in the second innings. He was also instrumental in the first innings as India crushed Australia to take the lead in the series.
However, with Rohit's arrival for the Pink-ball Test, it was expected that the skipper will open the innings. But Rohit decided to experiment as he batted at number 5 and couldn't do much in both the innings as India lost the game by 10-wickets.
Ahead of the Gabba Test, reports circulated that he will open in place of KL Rahul, but once again Rohit sprung a surprise as he stuck with the same game-plan.
Jaiswal gone as India's struggle continues
After conceding 445 runs in the first innings, thanks to hundreds from Travis Head and Steve Smith, India were expected to put up a fight with the bat in hand, but disaster struck in the first over itself.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been in a constant battle with Mitch Starc, suffered at his hands once again as the left-arm seamer had the laugh once again and dismissed the Indian opener for just 4 runs in the first over.
