Jasprit Bumrah is unstoppable in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Series and has been India's lone warrior against a strong Australian batting lineup. The pacer has scalped 18 wickets and not even three Tests has been completed.
He already has racked up two five-wicket hauls in the series as the Aussies have found it difficult to play against him. In the ongoing Gabba Test match, the Australian batters, particularly, Travis Head, ran away with the contest and India needed a saviour to pull back the contest, and Bumrah became that messiah for the side.
He picked up crucial wickets and with the scalp of Mitchell Starc, he bagged his 50th wicket in Australia and surpassed the great Anil Kumble, who had 49 to his name.
Most Test wickets for India in Australia
Bowler | Wickets |
---|---|
Kapil Dev | 51 |
Jasprit Bumrah | 50* |
Anil Kumble | 49 |
R Ashwin | 40 |
Bishan Singh Bedi | 35 |
Bumrah is also closing in on Kapil Dev in this list as he aims to become the Indian bowler with most wickets in Australia. In just 10 matches, the Indian seamer has 50 wickets to his name, at an impressive average of 18. In the Perth Test, he led from the front with a 5-wicket haul, and then he carried the side in the Gabba Test as well.
Australia in the driving seat despite Bumrah's heroics
Despite Bumrah going strong from one end, no other Indian bowler provided ample support as the Aussies have accumulated 435 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Travis Head scored a stunning counter-attacking century and Steve Smith, too, joined the party as he also slammed his 33rd Test ton to put India on the back-foot.
Alex Carey rubbed the salt on Indian wounds with a quick-fire fifty as India stare at a defeat despite not even batting once in the match.
