The Indian team started off the Border-Gavaskar Series on a high after winning the Perth Test match, but since then they have been on a downward trajectory, losing the Adelaide Test match and already on the back-foot in Brisbane.
In Perth, a Jasprit Bumrah led Indian team crushed the Aussies in a one-sided contest, but they became a victim in the Pink-Ball Test as the home side took their revenge and won by 10-wickets in the Adelaide Test match. Things have not been going well in the ongoing Test as India have conceded 445 runs in their first innings and need to make a strong comeback to take a lead in the series.
Several players have come under scrutiny and several Indian decisions has come under spotlight. Hence, if India lose the Gabba Test, they'll be out of the WTC finale race and thus, BCCI will need to make some strong decisions.
Sack Rohit as captain and give the captaincy armband to Bumrah
Rohit Sharma is a superb leader in the white-ball game, but somehow, he has failed to translate his captaincy style in the red-ball cricket. His laid-back approach hasn't helped the team's cause and it was evident during the 3-0 whitewash at the hands of New Zealand.
He missed the Perth Test which India won comfortably under Bumrah, and under his leadership, the team lacked the cutting-edge in Adelaide and have shown no intention to win the ongoing Gabba Test as well. The captaincy has come under scrutiny, especially after allowing Travis Head to run away with yet another hundred.
If India indeed lose the Test match, BCCI should simply reward Bumrah with the captaincy, since he has been the lone warrior for the team in the series.
Try and experiment in the next two Tests
If India lose the ongoing Test, they'll be out of the WTC finale race and will have nothing to lose. Hence, for the Melbourne and Sydney Test, the team should simply experiment for the next WTC cycle.
Play new players, bring in the likes of Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan, who have hunger to perform in Tests. Someone like Virat Kohli is also under the scanner despite scoring a century in Perth. The Indian star hasn't delivered in the remaining three innings and if he fails in the Gabba Test, bring in someone else to prepare that player for the next cycle.
