Disapproving Harshit Rana's angry send-off to SRH batter Mayank Agarwal in a recent IPL 2024 contest, former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar urged the KKR pacer to tone down the unnecessary aggression just for the sake of being seen on television.

SRH vs KKR high-octane matchup got heated during the 208-run chase when SRH openers Mayank Agrawal and Abhishek Sharma were off to a flyer start.

The duo stacked up 60 runs in the powerplay before KKR pacer Harshit Rana, who was getting hammered by Agarwal, had the last laugh.

Rana tricked Mayank with a slower bouncer, and a failed pull attempt went to Rinku Singh at deep backward square leg, thus ending Agarwal's dangerous knock.

However, things got uglier soon after when Harshit Rana, in the heat of the moment, blew a kiss on Mayank Agarwal's face as the batter was on his way back to the dressing room. The senior batter didn't respond, but Rana's unsportsmanlike gesture irked cricket lovers across the state.

Gavaskar blasts Harshit Rana For Wicket Celebration

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who also happened to be on air during the moment, schooled Rana while disappointing the youngster's gestures.

He argued that Mayank didn't tease Rana when the bowler was getting hit for boundaries. So why would Rana do something like that to a senior player? He further added that it's just a wicket in the field of cricket, and it's nothing to be so arrogant about.

"Couldn't see any of that earlier on when he was hitting you for boundaries. No need to do that Mr. Rana. It's just a wicket in cricket. The batter didn't do that to him when he was hitting boundaries," Gavaskar said.

Gavaskar also said that players of this generation feel the need to be seen on television and such stunts do help in that.

"I know we are all in the television age. We need to be seen doing certain things. You can play cricket without doing that. By all means, celebrate. Celebrate with the team. But, there's no need to do that to an opposition player," he added.

But he overall advised Rana to celebrate in an acceptable manner and that good cricket can be played without such unpleasant activities.
