On Wednesday, November 19, Bangladesh's leading run-scorer in Tests, Mushfiqur Rahim scripted history as he took the field against Ireland in Mirpur for the 2nd Test of the ongoing series, as he becomes the first Bangladesh cricketer to play 100 Test matches.

Having made his Test debut back in May 2005 at the iconic Lord's against England in 2005, the wicketkeeper 38-year-old has scored 6351 runs for his country at an average of 38.02, with 12 centuries and 27 fifties to his name. His career high score came against Zimbabwe in 2018, when he scored a marathon 219*(421) to win his team the match by an innings and 218 runs.

During his illustrious career, he also led the Asian team in 34 matches from 2011 to 2017, with 7 wins, 18 losses and 9 draws as a skipper. While he has given up wicketkeeping, he inflicted 113 dismissals in 99 innings behind the wicket, which includes 98 catches and 15 stumpings.

Rahim became the 8th wicketkeeper to play 100 or more Test matches. Previously, the likes of MS Dhoni and Adam Gilchrist fell short of the milestone by 10 and 4 Test matches, respectively.

  1. Mark Boucher - 147 Tests
  2. Ian Healy - 119 Tests
  3. Alec Stewart - 133 Tests
  4. Jonny Bairstow - 100 Tests
  5. Brendon McCullum - 101 Tests
  6. Kumar Sangakkara - 134 Tests
  7. Mushfiqur Rahim - 100* Tests
  8. AB de Villiers - 114 Tests

(Sorted on the basis of dismissals).

Previously in the ongoing series, Rahim only batted once in the series opener in Sylhet, scoring 23(52) in their big win against the visitors. As the hosts bat first in Mirpur, the stalwart also stands a chance to only become the 12 player in the history of the format to score a century in his 100th Test.
