In the first Test match against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, India’s wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul faced a tough task as he walked in to bat at position five. The Indian team was struggling to stabilise the innings after early blows, and Rahul aimed to counter the pressure with a steady approach. However, his stay at the crease was cut short, as he was dismissed for 16 runs in the 43rd over, adding to India’s woes.

The crucial moment came when Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who had been searching for a breakthrough, delivered a flighted off-break on Rahul’s pads. KL Rahul, attempting to flick it past short leg, couldn’t control the shot and ended up lobbing the ball in the air.

Zakir Hasan, positioned under the helmet at short leg, reacted instantly, diving to his right to take an outstanding low catch. The sharp reflexes of Zakir turned the game in Bangladesh’s favor, bringing an end to Rahul’s scratchy knock and leaving India in a precarious situation at six down.

Bangladesh’s Pacers Dominate Early On

India’s innings had a rocky start after being put to bat first. Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud wreaked havoc, starting with the wicket of Rohit Sharma for just six runs. Mahmud, brimming with confidence, went on to dismiss Shubman Gill for an eight-ball duck, and soon after, Virat Kohli for a mere six runs. Rishabh Pant, who tried to counterattack with a brisk 39, also fell to Mahmud, who ended his spell with four wickets.

India In Deep Trouble Despite Jaiswal’s Effort

Despite a valiant fifty from Yashasvi Jaiswal, who tried to anchor the innings, India found themselves in a dire position. Nahid Rana, adding to Bangladesh’s bowling success, removed Jaiswal, leaving India reeling.

At the time of writing, India stands at 168 for 6, with Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin fighting to salvage the innings.
