India's talismanic batter Virat Kohli had a poor start to the much-anticipated Bangladesh series as promising pacer Hasan Mahmud dismissed him cheaply in the ongoing first Test at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Coming at four, the experienced batter managed only six runs before Mahmud got his prized wicket to leave the hosts in tatters.

The incident occurred during the tenth over of of India's first innings after Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto opted to bowl under tricky batting conditions. His decision proved to be a masterstroke as Hasan Mahmud helped them get a dream start with the crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli.

After getting rid of Rohit Sharma with a peach, the right-arm pacer dismissed Gill, thanks to the batter's casual shot. As of it wasn't enough, Mahmud bowled a ripper to make Kohli fall into his trap.

After starting his over with a dot ball, Hasan Mahmud bowled a full-length delivery which moved slightly away from Kohli after pitching outside the off stump. The ball was pitched up, inviting Kohli for a drive. The experienced cricketer once again committed a casual mistake, driving much away from his body with hard hands.

As a result, the ball took a thin outside edge off his bat, with Bangladesh's wicket-keeper Litton Das taking a simple catch behind the stumps. Thus, Kohli, who was expected to bail India out of trouble, let the hosts down with an abysmal outing.

Rampant Bangladesh Run Through India's Top Order

Riding on Hasan Mahmud's exceptional opening spell, Bangladesh got a fabulous start to the first session of the Test match. The seam bowler, who recently bagged a clinical five-wicket haul against Pakistan, rattled the Indian top-order with three quick wickets. As of writing, the hosts were 36 for three, with Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal batting on 0* and 18*, respectively.
