Indian veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently snubbed his teammates Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to pick unconventional batters choice for best cover drive and pull shot.

During a recent conversation with Vimal Kumar on YouTube, Ashwin praised England's Marcus Trescothick for having the best cover drive and Australia's Ricky Ponting for mastering the pull shot.

This unconventional choice came as a surprise, given the widespread admiration for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's elegance in playing these strokes, respectively.

Ashwin ignores his teammates to reveal unique choices !

Marcus Trescothick is a former English cricketer known for his aggressive left-handed batting, particularly at the top of the order. He was one of England's most consistent and successful openers during the early 2000s and played a crucial role in England's resurgence in Test cricket.

“Cover Drive? Marcus Trescothick. You know him right? I do and his cover drive was really great. Michael Vaughan also had a great cover drive as well,” Ashwin said.

On the other hand, Ashwin reserved high praise for Ricky Ponting's iconic pull shot.

“Pull Shot? Ricky Ponting. I will talk to Rohit and tell him it’s Ponting,” he added.

Ricky Ponting needs no introduction. He was one of Australia's greatest cricketers and one of the most successful captains in the history of the game. He was often considered one of the finest players of his generation, excelling in both Test and limited-overs formats.

Rohit, Virat sweat hard in nets ahead of Bangladesh series

Meanwhile, ahead of a gruelling Test season, the Indian team's pillars, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, have begun practice. The duo reached Chennai last week and were seen sweating hard in nets.

While Virat Kohli struggled a bit against Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma also practised some unconventional shots. The first Test against Bangladesh begins on September 19 at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.
