As PSL 2024 season marches towards its final stage, Karachi Kings will take on Quetta Gladiators to hang on to the tiny hope of making it to the playoffs. The 22nd fixture of the tournament will go on floors in Rawalpindi Stadium on Wednesday from 2.30 PM onwards.

While the Gladiators sit comfortably in the top two slots of the table, it's a virtual knockout contest for Shan Masood-led Karachi Kings.

Karachi Kings' years-long woes have been perpetuated as a leadership transition and had too little effect on the franchise's fortunes. Shan Masood has been ordinary with the bat at the top order. While his tactical skills are unmatched, the Pakistan Test captain simply lacks the confidence to play freely.

That lack of confidence funneled down the order as, barring Kieron Pollard, the rest of the batting unit struggled immensely.

In the previous game against mighty Multan Sultans, the Kings were trashed badly in the absence of Pollard. Besides Shoaib Malik and Shan, the no-batter could surpass the 30-run mark in a 190-run chase.

Even with the ball, experienced players like Nawaz and Hasan Ali have let down big time.

With a mere four points added to their tally, Karachi Kings are on the verge of elimination. A loss against Quetta Gladiators would result in the end of the campaign for the former PSL champions.

Quetta Gladiators

Contrary to Karachi Kings, a change of leadership worked wonders for Quetta Gladiators. Sarfaraz Ahmed was relieved of captaincy duties to appoint South African batter Rilee Rossouw as the new leader of the pack by Quetta. 

The Gladiators have found the right balance this year. Khawaja Nafay has been the find of the tournament, and Rutherford's heroic cameo in the previous game fixed the finishing woes. 

With the ball, Usman Tariq and Akeal Hosein have been phenomenal. Wasim Jr has been inconsistent, but Abrar Ahmed has filled in the gaps to register back-to-back clinical performances.

That being said, despite their previous fixture getting washed out by the rain, Quetta Gladiators' place in the points table is unthreatened. A win against Karachi Kings on Wednesday would further fixate their place in the PSL 2024 season playoffs.
