Pakistan's rising young wrist-spinner Usama Mir showcased his talent and potential with a terrific delivery to dismiss Karachi Kings skipper Shan Masood during Sunday (March 3) night's Pakistan Super League (PSL) encounter.

The skiddy Multan Sultans tweaker outsmarted the veteran left-hand batter, who was well set on 36 off 28 deliveries, as he missed a sharp leg-cutter that came in with the turn against the left-hander and jammed into his middle stump.

Usama managed to thwart the aggressive Masood while he was aiming for an extravagant slog-sweep towards the on-side but completely missed the delivery before it duly castled the stumps behind him. For the young spinner, it was a moment of great joy as he also unveiled his trademark celebrations afterwards.

The big scalp arrived in the ninth over of the Kings' run-chase. Set an imposing target of 190, the Karachi franchise depended heavily on its skipper Masood to guide the team through from an end. However, even as the elegant left-hander got set, he was done in by a sharp leg-spinner from Sultans' young wrist-spinner.

It was a huge wicket in the context of the game since Masood had helped revive Kings' fortunes after the two early hiccups in a partnership with fellow Pakistan stalwart Shoaib Malik (38). But his departure stole the life out of the Kings' batting effort as they fell to 169/7 after reaching 75/2 at one point.

Usama delivered a match-winning spell of 2 for 29 off his 4 overs on the night and reinforced his potential and promise for the Sultans in the PSL and Pakistan at the international stage.

The 28-year-old is now the top wicket-taker of the PSL 2024 with his 15 scalps coming in just seven innings.
