Bangladesh inched ahead in the opening Test of their two-match series against Pakistan by stumps on Day 4.

Here’s the timeline of how PAK vs BAN Day 4 panned out in Rawalpindi:

PAK vs BAN Day 4 Highlights: Naseem Strikes Early, Mushfiqur Reaches Century

Naseem Shah struck early for Pakistan by removing a well-set Litton Das (56 off 78) within the opening hour of Day 4. Fellow overnight batter and senior man Mushfiqur Rahim, however, remained unfazed with the early setback and forged a fresh rebellion with number eight batter Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Rahim marched on to notch up his 11th Test century at the stroke of Lunch, while Miraz reached an unbeaten 17.

The two cricketers ensured Bangladesh faced no further setbacks after Litton’s dismissal, as they reached 389-6 at the end of the opening session of the day.

PAK vs BAN Day 4 Highlights: Rahim, Miraz Bat Out Post-Lunch Session

Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz batted out the entire post-lunch session to take Bangladesh past Pakistan’s first innings total of 448-6d. Pakistan pacemen Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah and Khurram Shahzad toiled hard at the batting-friendly Rawalpindi surface, but their collective efforts made little-to-no difference as they failed to deter Rahim’s composure on a sunny day.

Mehidy Hasan brought up his seventh half-century in the process, while Rahim reached a commanding 173* as Bangladesh accumulated 106 runs from the 31-over session to move to 495-6.

PAK vs BAN Day 4 Highlights: BAN Secure Huge Lead & One Wicket Before Stumps

Nine overs into the final session of the day, Mushfiqur Rahim was dismissed by Mohammad Ali for 191. Rahim belted 22 boundaries and a six in his 341-ball marathon knock, and his departure brought an end to his 196-run seventh-wicket stand with half-centurion Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Pakistani quicks Shaheen Afridi (2-88) and Naseem Shah (3-93) subsequently polished off the tail to restrict Bangladesh to 565. Afridi also accounted for the wicket of Mehidy Hasan after the latter reached 77 as Bangladesh secured a huge 117-run first innings lead.

Left to survive the final 10 overs of the day, Pakistan lost opener Saim Ayub in just the third over of the innings to Shoriful Islam. The hosts eventually reached 23-1 by stumps, still trailing Bangladesh by another 94 runs.
