Since bursting onto the scene for India in 2010, Shikhar Dhawan quickly became a linchpin of the team, particularly in white-ball formats. While his brilliance in the shorter formats is well-celebrated, his flair in Test cricket often flies under the radar.

5. 119 off 123 Balls vs Sri Lanka - Pallekele, August 2017

In the third Test at Pallekele during India's 2017 tour of Sri Lanka, Dhawan was the catalyst in India's massive win by an innings and 171 runs.

Dhawan, in his trademark attacking style, blazed his way to 119 off 123 balls in India's first innings, laying the foundation for a mammoth total of 487. His innings featured 17 boundaries and it put Sri Lanka on the back foot right from the get-go.

Sri Lanka, under pressure, crumbled for just 135 in their first innings, overwhelmed by the mountain of runs Dhawan had piled on.

Forced to follow on, they barely put up a fight, collapsing for 181 in their second innings as India sealed the match and the series 3-0 with Dhawan being named Player of the Series for 358 runs across three games.

4. 134 off 271 Balls vs Sri Lanka - Galle, August 2015

During the first Test at Galle in 2015, Dhawan's gritty knock of 134 off 271 balls was the standout performance in a match full of twists.

Sri Lanka batted first and were bowled out for 183, with Ashwin taking 6 wickets. In response, India posted 375, anchored by Dhawan's patient 134 off 271 balls, which included 13 boundaries. He was well supported by Virat Kohli, who scored 103.

Sri Lanka, trailing by 192 runs, mounted a remarkable comeback in their second innings. Led by Dinesh Chandimal's unbeaten 162, they scored 367, setting India a target of 176.

However, India faltered under pressure, collapsing to 112 all out, with Rangana Herath claiming 7 wickets. Dhawan managed 28 in the second innings, but his earlier century couldn’t prevent a 63-run defeat for India.

In the only Test of India's 2015 tour of Bangladesh at Fatullah, Dhawan played a sensational innings, scoring 173 off 195 balls.

His innings was a display of aggressive batting, with 23 boundaries to his name, propelling India to a commanding 462/6 declared in their first innings. Dhawan, along with Murali Vijay, who scored 150, laid the foundation for India’s massive total.

Bangladesh, in response, were bundled out for 256, with Ravichandran Ashwin taking 5 wickets. Forced to follow on, Bangladesh ended at 23/0, as rain played spoilsport, leading to the match being drawn.

In the third Test of Australia's 2013 tour of India at Mohali, Dhawan announced his arrival on the Test stage with a breathtaking debut innings.

Making his first appearance in the longest format, Dhawan lit up the ground with a stunning 187 off just 174 balls. His knock, laced with 33 boundaries and 2 sixes powered India to a formidable total of 499 in response to Australia’s 408.

Australia, in their second innings, managed to score 223, setting India a modest target of 133. Dhawan’s explosive debut had already swung the momentum firmly in India’s favour, and the hosts chased down the target comfortably, finishing at 136/4 to win by 6 wickets.

Dhawan set the stage on fire in the first Test of India’s 2017 tour of Sri Lanka at Galle, blasting a sensational 190 off just 168 balls.

His innings, studded with 31 boundaries, was a display of fearless aggression that propelled India to a commanding first-innings total of 600, leaving Sri Lanka on the back foot from the outset. Cheteshwar Pujara also contributed a stellar 153.

Sri Lanka struggled to respond, managing only 291 in their first innings. India, in complete control, declared their second innings at 240/3 with Virat Kohli scoring 103* as the visitors set the hosts a mammoth target of 550. The Islanders faltered again, being bowled out for 245, handing India a dominant 304-run victory.
