Bangladesh regained some control of the Rawalpindi Test through stubborn batting on Day 3 after spending a weary day on the field for the first Pakistani innings.

Here’s the timeline of how PAK vs BAN Day 3 panned out in Rawalpindi:

PAK vs BAN Day 3 Highlights: Shadman Islam Rebuilt BAN Response After Early Setback

Resuming Day 3 at 27-0, Bangladesh lost opener Zakir Hasan to Naseem Shah within the first five overs of the morning session. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto also failed to capitalize his start as he was cleaned up by Khurram Shahzad at 53-2 in 27 overs.

Hasan’s opening partner Shadman Islam, however, marched on to list his third Test fifty. He shared an unbroken 81-run partnership with Mominul Haque to anchor Bangladesh’s first innings to a commanding 134-2 by lunch.

Bangladesh batters picked up the pace in the afternoon session as they added 65 runs to the total in 18 overs, albeit at an expense of two wickets. Shadman Islam belted a few boundaries to reach 93 before he was denied a well-deserved Test century by Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Ali. However, it was Mominul Haque who became the first Pakistani wicket to fall in the session right after he listed his 19th Test half-century.

The left-handed batter flogged five boundaries in his 76-ball 50 before he became Khurram Shahzad’s second Bangladeshi victim of the day. Regardless, Haque and Islam’s fifty-plus scores ensured Bangladesh reached 199-4 in 66 overs.

PAK vs BAN Day 3 Highlights: Litton Das Makes Lightning 52* As BAN Seals Final Session

Shakib Al Hasan made just 15 runs at near run-a-ball when he mistimed one off Saim Ayub at 218-5. Unbeaten Mushfiqur Rahim was subsequently joined by wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das, and the two steered Bangladesh to a commanding position by stumps without further casualty.

While Rahim compiled a fluent 55* off 122 balls, Das took Pakistan quick Naseem Shah to the cleaners with an 18-run over. The dashing left-hander got to his half-century from just 52 delivers as Bangladesh reached 316-5 at the end of Day 3. Both Rahim (55*) and Das (52*) will resume Bangladesh’s innings on Day 4 while still facing a first innings deficit of 132 runs.
