The first Test between England and Sri Lanka is turning out to be an interesting game with Kamindu Mendis' leading Sri Lanka's fightback in the second innings with a magnificent century.

Kamindu Mendis has been prolific with the bat in his short Test career so far, and has now scored his third century in just his fourth Test. He came out to bat with Sri Lanka at 95-4 and still trailing by 27 runs. That's where he joined hands with Angelo Mathews first, and then with Chandimal to lead a brilliant fightback for the visitors.

The left-handed batter looked in control all throughout his innings, mixing caution with aggression gracefully. He eventually got to his century just before Lunch on Day 4 in the 81st over of the innings and at the time of writing, Sri Lanka's lead has reached 169 with still four wickets in hand.

Sri Lanka Need To Stretch Lead Around 300

The job is not done though for the Lankans and they would be looking to take the lead around 300 to put England in pressure in the final innings of the Test match. England had the lead of 122, courtesy a century by Jamie Smith and it would be interesting to see how much more Sri Lanka can stretch their lead with five sessions remaining in the Test match.
