PAK players humiliated in BBL [Source: @saadimalik22/x.com]
On Sunday, Pakistan star Babar Azam failed on his Big Bash League (BBL) debut as he departed for just 2 runs, and on Monday, his best friend, Mohammad Rizwan, met a similar fate as he humiliated himself and scored a painstaking 4 off 10 balls on his debut for the Melbourne Renegades vs Brisbane Heat.
Rizwan was not played at his usual batting position (opening), but was sent at number 3, and on a wicket that looked favourable for the batters, the out of form Pakistan keeper struggled for runs as he couldn’t get bat on ball.
His misery ended as Patrick Dooley, the spin bowler, delivered a flighted delivery and Rizwan got a top-edge trying to slog the ball out of the park, and the fielder at deep square leg took a simple catch.
Rizwan's knock ended his Pakistan comeback dream?
Rizwan was the captain of the Pakistan white-ball side, but due to their poor run in the Champions Trophy 2025, Rizwan’s white-ball captaincy was snatched, with Salman Agha appointed the new T20I skipper. Moreover, Rizwan, alongside Babar were dropped from the Asia Cup squad, and this came in as a shocker.
While Babar was eventually brought back in the T20I scheme of things, Rizwan was not called back as the Men in Green had a settled combination and the keeper-batter was urged to improve his strike rate before the T20 World Cup.
The BBL season for the Renegades was a golden chance for Rizwan to claim his place in the T20I setup, but on a wicket that helped the batters, he failed to deliver the goods and had a strike rate of just 40 as his stay came to an end, and his hopes have perhaps been dashed of a comeback in the T20I squad.
Rizwan's Pakistan teammate taken to the cleaners
Rizwan’s international teammate, Shaheen Afridi, was making his BBL debut for the Brisbane Heat, and his debut turned into a nightmare as the left-arm pacer was taken to the cleaners. He failed to put pressure on the opposition as Shaheen conceded runs at an economy of 15. He couldn't even complete the quota of four overs as he bowled multiple no-balls and was dismissed by the umpire.
