Mumbai is set to host the Physical Disability T20 series from December 16 to December 18 at the Wankhede Stadium.
The tournament was announced by the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DDCI), with all three matches scheduled to be played at the same venue, promoting the spirit of athletes with physical disabilities.
The three-day T20 series will aim at inclusivity in the spirit of the game, where physical hindrances won’t be an obstacle.
This essentially promotes the stature of disability cricket nationally and internationally, as Wankhede, which recently hosted the visit of Football GOAT Leo Messi, will be the platform for the budding cricketers with physical discrepancies.
MCA officials happy to host Physical Disability T20 series
Speaking on the glorious occasion, Unmesh Khanvilkar, General Secretary of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) took pride in the involvement of the mega tournament that aspires to change life of aspiring disabled cricketers.
"Hosting the Physical Disability Cricket Series for the very first time is a proud milestone for MCA--celebrating resilience, redefining ability, and reaffirming that cricket truly belongs to everyone. Our President, Ajinkya Naik, is deeply committed to promoting and celebrating physical disability cricket, and we will continue to extend our full support," Unmesh said.
Ravi Chauhan, General Secretary of the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI), shared his excitement on being a part of the tournament as he thanked the MCA President for allowing the arrangements at Wankhede.
"This is a truly special moment for our players. Getting the opportunity to play at the historic Wankhede Stadium--where Team India won the 2011 World Cup--will provide a tremendous boost and motivation. I sincerely thank Ajinkya Naik, President of MCA, who has consistently supported our cricket. DCCI extends its heartfelt gratitude to MCA for hosting physical disability cricket. Your commitment to inclusivity and opportunity has strengthened the spirit of the game and empowered our athletes to shine," Chauhan said.
