Gambhir accused of hypocrisy [Source: @Jara_1319/x.com]
Cricket is a team sport where individual performances donβt win you games, but rather a collective effort is required. The Indian side, who are currently playing in the five-match T20I series against South Africa, defeated the Proteas in the third match to take a 2-1 lead in the series, and the match was won due to the collective team effort.
In a relatively easy chase, the Indian team achieved the target with 7 wickets in hand as the Men in Blue have the upper hand going into the fourth T20I. After the contest, the Indian head coach, Gautam Gambhir applauded the entire team, but a video that has gone viral showcases his affection towards a certain player.
Fans call Gambhir 'hypocrite' as he applauds Harshit Rana
He stood at a distance and clapped for all his players, but when Harshit Rana came in front of him, Gambhir moved forward, shook hands with Rana and patted on his back, indicating his preference towards the Indian seamer. While Harshit shown with the ball in the third T20I, some fans are not happy with how differently Gambhir treats him as compared to other players.

Gautam Gambhir applauded the other players while standing at his place β but for Harshit Rana, he stepped forward personally, shook hands, and gave special praise."

Another fan commented "Doglapant" as Gambhir gave special treatment to Rana.

Is Gambhir actually biased towards Rana?
Harshit Rana has been backed by Gautam Gambhir since the IPL 2024 season, when the youngster showed his bowling mettle as KKR won the IPL title. After which, Gambhir became the head coach of the Indian team and Harshit made his debut across formats.
At first, the move looked baffling as Harshit looked raw and was exposed in Australian conditions. However, as of late, it seems the move has paid dividend.
Gambhir was heavily criticised for backing Rana, but as of late, the Indian pacer has proven everyone wrong by taking 20 ODI wickets in just 11 matches this year. Also, in the third T20I in Dharamsala, Rana took 2 early wickets and halted South Africaβs momentum, and hence, he deservingly got the applause, which was coined as hypocrisy by many.
