Pakistan's newly appointed captain Mohammad Rizwan missed out on a well-deserved fifty in his side's ongoing One-Day International match against Australia at the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground. Batting at number four, Rizwan struck a valiant 71-ball 44 before Marnus Labuschagne made him his victim.

The incident occurred during the 32nd over of Pakistan's innings when Rizwan was trying to form a consolidating stand alongside Irfan Khan Niazi. Australian captain Pat Cummins' decision to bring Marnus Labuschagne into the attack proved a masterstroke, as the part-timer outfoxed Rizwan with his wily leg spin.

After starting his over with a single, Labuschagne erred in his line, with Rizwan punishing him for a boundary in his third delivery. However, the tweaker soon regained his mojo, sending the visiting skipper back into the dugout with a well-disguised delivery.

From over the wicket, Labuschagne tossed the ball up, inviting Mohammad Rizwan to use his feet against him. However, the right-handed batter decided to play a sweep shot against the turn. As a result, he only managed a top edge, with wicketkeeper Josh Inglis holding on to a simple catch behind the stumps.

Pakistan Lose Seven Wickets As Aussies Run Riot

Australian bowlers capitalised on the seam-friendly conditions at MCG, jolting Pakistan with frequent breakthroughs in the first ODI. While Rizwan scored 44 runs, Babar Azam was Pakistan's second best performer, contributing 37 runs to the total. Experienced fast bowler Shaheen Afridi slammed a quick-fire 19-ball 24 before Mitchell Starc cleaned him up with a pacy delivery. As of writing, the visitors were reeling at 152 for seven, with Irfan Khan Niazi and Naseem Shah batting on 12* and 3*, respectively.
