India's experienced middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer is all set to return to Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad after recovering from an injury. The stylish Mumbaikar earlier requested a break, missing out on the previous encounter against Tripura in Agartala due to a shoulder injury.
However, in an encouraging sign for Mumbai, Shreyas Iyer has regained fitness and will likely play the upcoming clash against Odisha, commencing on November 6 at MCA ground. Meanwhile, swashbuckling opening batter Prithvi Shaw continues to miss out, with Mumbai not recalling him to the side for the Odisha face-off. Notably, Shaw was sidelined due to poor fitness standards and is currently undergoing fitness training organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association.
Shreyas Iyer's History With Injuries
Despite being a batter with an unshakeable temperament, Shreyas Iyer's career has frequently been marred by injuries. He underwent shoulder surgery to treat a partially dislocated left shoulder in 2021, ruling him out of the T20 World Cup and the second half of the IPL.
He also sustained a back injury that forced him to miss several important assignments for the national side. The 29-year-old batter eventually lost his central contract before India ignored him for Tests and T20Is.
Mumbai's Performance In Ranji Trophy 2024
Led by Ajinkya Rahane, Mumbai have had a roller-coaster ride in the Ranji Trophy this year, claiming the third position in the Group A points table with one win in three appearances. They had a disastrous start to the competition, losing their opening encounter against Baroda. However, they followed it up with an emphatic victory over Maharashtra before securing a draw against Tripura.
