Sydney Thunder captain David Warner thumped 82 off 56 deliveries against Brisbane Heat in match number 29 of the BBL 2025-26 season. Opening the innings alongside Matthew Gilkes, Warner belted eight cracking boundaries and three huge sixes at the Gabba in Brisbane.
Through the course of his knock, David Warner also found certain irregularities with Brisbane Heat’s Pakistan import Zaman Khan, a 24-year-old paceman who stepped into the field as a replacement of senior man Shaheen Afridi as the latter was ruled out of the competition owing to an injury.
David Warner mocks Zaman Khan's bowling action
Brisbane Heat included Zaman Khan into its playing XI for the match against Sydney Thunder on Saturday, January 10 after fellow Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi was ruled out of the BBL 2025-26 season owing to an injury.
While the speedster started off by conceding 18 runs off his first two wicketless overs, he got belted for 14 in his third by Sam Billings and half-centurion David Warner.
By the end of his third over, Zaman Khan was also accused of “throwing” the ball by the legendary Australian and Sydney Thunder opener. Between overs, David Warner can be seen speaking with the umpires, as he trolled Zaman for bowling like a “four-year-old” as his deliveries kept too low. The Thunder skipper said, “He is bowling like a four-year-old bowling. It stays so low. Looks like he is throwing the ball.”

David Warner's fireworks ensure a formidable score for Sydney Thunder
Nonetheless, David Warner ended up blasting 82 off 56 balls as Sydney Thunder surged to a competitive 180-6 in 20 overs. Sam Billings (34 off 26) and wicketkeeper-batter Nic Maddinson (21 off 14) also smeared valuable runs after the early fall of opener Matthew Gilkes and number three Cameron Bancroft.
Zaman Khan, who was playing his first match for Brisbane Heat in the BBL, had a debut to forget as he conceded 32 runs off his overall three overs without picking up a wicket.
