Cricket and music have come together in the most beautiful manner as Sunil Gavaskar surprised Jemimah Rodrigues with a bat-shaped guitar to perform a special jam session in Mumbai. The legendary former India captain fulfilled a promise he had made during the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, where India emerged victorious to claim its maiden title. The meeting was held on the eve of the WPL 2026 opener.
Sunil Gavaskar’s duet with Jemimah Rodrigues wins hearts
Ahead of the WPL 2026 opener, Sunil Gavaskar joined Jemimah Rodrigues for a soulful duet. Both sat side by side, and the pair launched into the ever-popular song ‘Yeh Dosti’ from the movie ‘Sholay’.
Jemimah, already popular for her love for singing, looked thrilled as Gavaskar matched her note for note, bringing smiles to everyone present.
Before the jam session, Gavaskar surprised Jemimah with a customised guitar shaped like a cricket bat.
Jemimah was visibly delighted as she opened the box and admired the craftsmanship. Gavaskar, in his usual witty style, joked that he was not the opening bat on the day and urged her to open the gift quickly.
The video clips and pictures shared by Jemimah on Instagram quickly went viral. Jemimah called the guitar the coolest gift ever and thanked Sunil Gavaskar for making the moment so special.
The World Cup promise that made it all happen
This heartwarming moment had its roots in India’s memorable Women’s World Cup campaign. After India reached the final following a big semi-final win, Sunil Gavaskar had promised Jemimah Rodrigues that if the team lifted the trophy, he would sit down and jam with her.
Jemimah never forgot that promise. After the World Cup victory, she reminded everyone about Gavaskar’s words and even showcased her singing on stage.
With a smile, she said she was waiting for Sunil sir to honour his promise. True to his word, Gavaskar did exactly that.
He went ahead and fulfilled his assurance. It was a gesture that showed his respect for the women’s team and his affection for Jemimah’s vibrant personality.
