Sydney Sixers fast bowling all-rounder Sam Curran went slower than a spinner at one stage of his brief two-over spell against Melbourne Stars in match 27 of the BBL 2025-26 season.
Bowling the 11th over of the Melbourne Stars innings at the iconic MCG, the speedster sent down a shocking 77.2km/hr delivery to hard-hitting all-rounder and home captain Marcus Stoinis.
Sam Curran’s calculated slower delivery yielded just a single as Stoinis carefully nudged the ball towards his leg side before taking off.
Overall, Sydney Sixers’ England important still leaked 31 runs off his two overs at an expensive economy rate of 15.50, in an innings where the Melbourne Stars scored runs at just 6.45 an over.
Sam Curran’s slow delivery takes forever to reach Stoinis
Curran surprised one-and-all by clocking just 77.2km/hr at one stage of his two-over spell against Melbourne Stars in Melbourne in the BBL 2025-26 season. After getting hammered for 20 runs in his opening over inside the powerplay by Stars openers Sam Harper and Thomas Rogers, Curran got taken off the attack by his Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques.
Making his return for a second over in the 11th over of the Melbourne Stars innings after Sixers responded with three quick wickets, Sam once again went wicketless and conceded 11 runs to finish his short two-over spell with figures of 0-31.
On the fourth ball of his second over, Curran delivered a ball that took an age to reach Marcus Stoinis, who simply tapped it towards his leg side for a single.

In spite of Sam Curran’s expensive and experimental outing, the Sydney Sixers still managed to fold up the Melbourne Stars for just 128 in 19.5 overs. Jack Edwards picked up three wickets for just 27 runs in his four overs, while Ben Dwarshuis unfurled the spell of the innings with figures of 4-13.
