After stamping his authority for South Africa in the Test match with a century on debut, young sensation Lhuan-Dre Pretorius failed to impress on his T20I debut against Zimbabwe after getting out on a golden duck. In the ongoing first T20I between South Africa and Zimbabwe of the tri-series, Pretorius couldn't get off the mark, as he was caught and bowled by Richard Ngarava.
Lhuan-Dre Pretorius Joins A Rare List Of South Africans
After impressing everyone with his exploits with the bat in the SA20 2025 and Test series against Zimbabwe, South African opener and youngster Lhuan-Dre Pretorius has started off on a false note against Zimbabwe in the ongoing first T20I of the tri-series, as he was dismissed on a golden duck.
The first T20I, happening at the Harare Sports Club in Harare, where New Zealand is also part of the series, saw Zimbabwe posting 141 on the board after the end of the 20 overs, and in reply, South Africa couldn't have had a worse start possible, as they lost their prime young star, Pretorius, on a golden duck, courtesy of Richard Ngarava, who got him out with his own bowling, on the very first delivery of the innings.
With this, he now becomes the sixth South African player to get out on a duck on T20I debut; the first one ever to do so was Shaun Pollock, who had this record against New Zealand back in 2005 at Johannesburg.
Interestingly, he is now the first and only player from the Proteas side to register a duck as an opener on T20I debut.

South Africa In Prime Position After Early Jitters
The visitors won the toss and put the home side Zimbabwe into bat, and on the back of skipper Sikandar Raza, Zimbabwe were able to put up 141 on the board for the loss of six wickets, where Raza scored 54*, as George Linde picked three wickets in his three overs for 10 runs.
In reply, South Africa had early jitters as they lost three wickets for 38 runs, with Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen back in the hut alongside Pretorius inside six overs.
However, Rubin Hermann and Dewald Brevis stitched a fine partnership together, helping South Africa near victory, as by the end of 12 overs, they had 110 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets, with 32 more required from 48 deliveries.
