Washington Sundar was dismissed for a four-ball duck on Day 5 of the Lord’s Test against England. The Indian all-rounder found a leading edge off Jofra Archer, only for the English paceman to grab a stunning caught-and-bowled.
Washington’s dismissal further worsened India’s troubles at 82-7 in a chase of 193 runs. Earlier in the match, Sundar chipped in with 23 runs for India during the first innings, where he was also dismissed by Archer.
It Takes “Four Balls” For Archer To Get To Washington
England Cricket shared an old Jofra Archer tweet from July 2015 to troll the four-ball duck of Washington Sundar in the ongoing third Test of the series at Lord’s. Back in 2015, Archer had taken to the microblogging site and wrote:
“How long it takes to get to Washington?”
Shortly after Archer dismissed India’s Washington Sundar for a four-ball duck with a sharp caught-and-bowled, England Cricket jokingly responded:
“Four balls”
While Washington Sundar failed with the bat in the decisive innings of the match, the Indian all-rounder picked up four England wickets on Day 4. The cricketer dismissed the likes of Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Ben Stokes and Shoaib Bashir to claim exceptional figures of 4-22 off his 12.1 overs during the second English innings.
Nonetheless, Washington Sundar’s batting failure piled on India’s run-chase misery on Day 5 of the third Test. Resuming the innings at a precarious 58-4, India lost night watchman Akash Deep and overnight batters Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul within the opening hour to slip to 82-7 at one stage.
All-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy subsequently forged a steady 30-run partnership for the eighth wicket to take India past the 100-run mark. At the time of publishing, India reached 136-8 from 52 overs with Jadeja still batting at the crease.
