Punjab Kings beat Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets in Qualifier 2 to advance to the finals of IPL 2025. PBKS’ captain Shreyas Iyer won fans’ hearts with a majestic knock of 87* off 41 balls, and they taunted KKR for releasing Iyer in the mega auction.
Despite a significant rain delay, the Mumbai Indians batted first and played the full 20 overs to post a giant total of 203 runs on the board. Tilak Varma (44), Suryakumar Yadav (44), and Naman Dhir’s (37) contributions helped Mumbai scale a good total.
However, in the chase, Shreyas Iyer took the game away from MI with a splendid knock.
Shreyas Iyer’s Match-Winning Knock Gets Praised On Social Media
Punjab Kings had a good start in the second inning, with Josh Inglis leading the charge. He hit 38 off 21 balls. However, the real carnage began when Shreyas Iyer walked out to bat.
He neutralised every threat that came his way and attacked the pace unit. From Jasprit Bumrah to Trent Boult to Ashwani Kumar, Iyer spared no one.
The captain hit 87* runs off just 41 balls to lead PBKS to the finals of IPL 2025. Iyer hammered 8 sixes and 5 fours to bat with a 212.20 strike rate.
Naturally, fans praised him heavily on social media. Many mocked KKR for releasing Shreyas in the mega auction and deemed the move a big fumble.

That being said, Punjab Kings will meet Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2025 finals. Both sides are yet to win a single IPL title, meaning at least one franchise will finally break their trophy-less jinx this year.
