Suryakumar Yadav, the Mumbai Indians batter is often compared with AB De Villiers for the way he bats and for his 360 degree style of play. Time and again, the India star has neglected the comparison but on Sunday he etched his name in the history books by surpassing AB De Villiers' 9-year-old record.
SKY surpasses ABD's record
Prior to the Qualifier 2 clash Vs Punjab Kings, Suryakumar had 673 runs in 15 innings and needed 15 runs to break AB De Villiers' record of most runs scored by a non opener in a single season. SKY achieved this feat when he smacked Yuzvendra Chahal for a boundary in the 10th over.
ABD had amassed 687 runs in 16 innings in the 2016 season and after 9 years, SKY, the successor of the Proteas batter broke the ultimate record. During the 2016 season, de Villiers was at his imperial best as the middle order batter smacked runs with an average of 52.84, and a strike rate of 168 as RCB reached the finale.
On the other hand, SKY now has 700 runs with a strike rate of 167.83 as he and MI fight to reach the finals of the IPL season.

SKY also broke Temba Bavuma's record
This season, Suryakumar has been a revelation for the Mumbai Indians and in the last league stage match of the IPL 2025, the MI batter slammed his 14th consecutive score of 25-plus, thus breaking the record of Temba Bavuma, who had 13 25-plus totals to his name.
