In a surprise move, former England fast bowler Stuart Broad will reportedly join South Africa's support staff ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. The match will be played at Lord’s in London from June 11, 2025.
The Proteas made it to their maiden WTC 2025 final after some strong and dominant performances in the 2-year cycle. However, their opponent, Australia, are not only the defending champion but also one of the strongest Test sides in the world.
Hence, to help South Africa fine-tune their fast bowling strategy, a former English pacer is likely to join the team as special support staff.
Stuart Broad Likely To Join Hands With South Africa For WTC Final
According to a report by The Telegraph, former England fast bowler Stuart Broad will take up a consultancy role with the South African team for their upcoming WTC 2025 final against Australia.
This will be his first coaching job since retiring from international cricket after the 2023 Ashes series. Since retirement, Broad has been working in the media and as a commentator.
Even though he won’t be in the dressing room during the match due to his TV commitments, Broad is expected to help South Africa with their training and planning before the big final.
Broad has had great success at Lord’s, taking 113 wickets in 28 Test matches there. Only three other bowlers in Test history have taken more wickets at a single venue. His experience and knowledge of the conditions at Lord’s could be very helpful for South Africa.
Temba Bavuma To Lead South Africa In WTC Final
South Africa will have a 15-member squad competing in the WTC final against Australia, with Temba Bavuma set to lead. Key IPL performers like Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, and Tristan Stubbs are included. With six pacers picked for pace-friendly Lord’s, South Africa’s bowling looks strong.
However, their inexperienced batting lineup could be a concern against a well-settled Australian side aiming to defend their crown.
Full squad: Temba Bavuma (c), Tony de Zorzi, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Corbin Bosch, Kyle Verreynne, David Bedingham, Tristan Stubbs, Ryan Rickelton, Senuran Muthusamy, Dane Paterson
