Angelo Mathews has officially played his final innings in Test cricket after being dismissed for the last time in the ongoing Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at Galle International Stadium on June 21. The emotional moment came on Day 5 of the match, as Mathews walked off the field for the final time.
Mathews was dismissed after scoring just 8 runs off 45 balls. Facing a delivery from Bangladesh’s off-spinner Nayeem Hasan, Mathews played a forward defensive shot to a good length ball that pitched on middle stump. Unfortunately for the Sri Lankan legend, the ball took an inside edge off his bat, striking his front pad before being caught at silly point by Mominul Haque.
