Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant helped India claim the driving seat, forming a sensational partnership for the fourth wicket. Gill, who earlier steadied the ship for the visitors through a valiant stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal, missed his maiden 150 by a narrow margin, getting dismissed for 147 runs.
However, the stylish right-hander was able to register his highest Test score, surpassing his previous best of 128 runs.

Had Gill touched the 150-run mark, he would've broken Virat Kohli's record for the second-highest individual Test score as an Indian captain in England.
Currently, he claims the fourth place, with Mohammad Azharuddin, Kohli and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi occupying the first, second and third positions, respectively. Legendary Indian captain Sourav Ganguly in fifth on the list, having played a glorious 128-run knock on English soil.
After losing the toss and being put into bat, India countered the English attack with perfection, as Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal plummeted sublime centuries. Rishabh Pant became the third centurion for the visiting side, with India replicating their historic Headingley heroics after 23 long years.
Karun Nair disappointed on his Test comeback, being dismissed for a duck. As of writing, India were 451 for five, with Pant and Ravindra Jadeja batting on 133* and 1*, respectively.
