In a remarkable achievement, experienced Indian batter Karun Nair brought up a clinical double hundred in India-A's ongoing unofficial Test against the England Lions at St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury, Kent. The batter attained the phenomenal landmark on the second day of the four-day affair, presenting a strong case for his inclusion in India's playing XI for the inaugural Test against England in Leeds.

Karun Nair Makes Strong Statement With Sublime Double Hundred

After being put into bat first, India-A had a shaky start to their innings, losing the reliable opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Abhimanyu Easwaran in quick succession. However, Karun Nair steadied the ship for the visiting team, forming valuable stands with Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel.

While both Sarfaraz and Jurel failed to breach the three-figure mark, Nair frustrated the Englishmen with his scintillating stroke-play, eventually completing his double hundred in the high-voltage affair.

England Lions' right-arm pacer Eddie Jack bowled a harmless short ball, which Karun Nair effortlessly put away to the boundary, bringing up his double century with a boundary. He followed it up with a gentle celebration, kissing the Tricolour badge on his helmet amid steady applause from the crowd.

Karun Nair Solves Selection Dilemma For Indian Team

Karun Nair's double hundred must've eased the selection conundrums following Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's Test retirements. While Rohit Sharma's void at the top order will likely be filled by KL Rahul, Nair could be roped in as Virat Kohli's replacement in the playing XI.

As Nair has struck the double ton at number three, it will be interesting to see if the Indian think tank fits him at that position, with several reports claiming skipper Shubman Gill's demotion to number four in the England Tests.
