Shubman Gill will begin his first assignment as India captain on June 20 when India face England in the first Test at Headingley, Leeds. Ahead of the series opener, the new captain addressed the press, where the reporters punched hard questions.
One of the journalists present at the venue put Gill in a tough spot when he asked him about winning the IPL or the five-match Test series in England, which one would the Indian prefer.
Gill Rates Test Win Over IPL
Shubman Gill won the fan's hearts as he picked winning a Test series over IPL glory. "If You imagine winning the IPL or five-match Test series, which one would you prefer," asked the reporter.
"Definitely the Test series in my opinion. You don't get many opportunity as a captain to come to England, only 2, if you are the best of your generation, maybe 3, and IPL comes every year, so you get to have a crack at it every year. So winning in SENA countries is bigger," he remarked during the press conference.
Gill Oozes Confidence In The Press Conference
The last time India won a Test series in England was back in 2007. It has been 18 years since the country from the sub-continent tasted success in the UK.
However, in the presser, when asked about India's brand of cricket under the Gill-Gambhir regime, the former refused to spill beans and remarked that the world would get to know of it by the end of August.
Gill's IPL Success Came In IPL 2023
While Gill picked winning a Test series over IPL, the 25-year-old has tasted success in India's premier T20 league and won his maiden IPL title with Gujarat Titans in 2022, which was the Titans' maiden season in the tournament. Also, Shubman was a key contributor to the competition.
