In just 7 Tests, Mendis has accumulated 801 runs, at an average of 89.00, with 4 stunning centuries. Interestingly, in such a short period of time, he has carved a name for himself.

With the way Mendis is going at the moment, he can reach breach Bradman's record, but the Sri Lankan superstar still has a long way to go.

Mendis goes past Gavaskar in another stellar Test record

When Mendis breached the 50-run mark in the ongoing match, he attained another record and went past India great Sunil Gavaskar. He brought up his eighth 50-plus score in Tests, and is the only batter apart from Saud Shakeel to score a fifty in each of his first 7 Tests.

The great Gavaskar had slammed 6 fifties in his first 6 Tests, and went onto score more than 10,000 run in Test history. Havimg made his Test debut in 2022 against Australia, but post that he didn't feature for the Lankan Lions for almost two-years, before making his triumphic return earlier this year against Bangladesh.
